Also, I trace them because they are being enlarged and a vector makes a small file with excellent clarity.

Thanks Anna, for your attention. I have selected an intersecting path between the sax and drums. The green is there to show me where the transparent areas are, I want that green everywhere behind the black outlines.

Thanks Monika for your time, much appreciated. I am trying to have a clear background with black outlines only and therefore drop colour behind and I don't want those colours to adhere to the outlines.

I'm stuck on this, every time I try the divide tool, here is the result... nothing! I have scanned my drawing and done live trace to get outlines that I can drop colour behind and this has been very successful in the past. Is there a solution that anyone can help me with? Please
